Sound Waves

Line, plane, and pattern are elements of form I naturally gravitate to. Line, like language, allows for infinite expressive qualities that through abstraction suggest narrative. The linear repetition in these pieces weaves together visual planes and aural spaces. These seemingly predictable patterns are influenced by the momentum of tides, currents, weather, and shifting sand. But like the ocean, they create textures that at any given moment can shift from a meditative calm to an uncontrollable power. An overload of media sources, a constant stream of click bait headlines, a deepening of political and social divides, and an ever-present angst led me to make this body of work as a respite and response. Living in this overwhelming environment dominated by the necessity of digital media, “Sound Waves” returns us to a place of comfort and awe.

Painting the Body in Squares

Painting the Body in Squares is a personal journey with a universal theme  that uses the square as a vessel to investigate the body’s aging process through its physical and emotional tolls on our identity and self-worth. Each series in the project addresses a different topic of this struggle, made especially more difficult being a woman.  Facing shrinking, wrinkling and greying to age related heart disease, infections, pain, cancer, and a slew of other post-menopausal issues, women struggle to be heard and recognized. The square becomes the stable force, providing the strength to persevere. Mixed Media; Gouache, Water Color, Graphite, Collage
